Golden Chance Permutation Betting: How It Works and When to Use It

Last updated: August 2026

Permutation betting, universally called Perm betting in Nigeria, is among the most popular bet types with experienced players. It lets you select more numbers than a bet requires and cover the sub-combinations within that selection. It is also the bet type most often misdescribed as improving your odds, which is true in one sense and misleading in another. Both senses are worth understanding before you use it.

What a Perm Bet Is

In a standard 5/90 game, a Direct or Nap bet requires exactly the number of selections the bet type demands: one for Direct, two for Nap 2, three for Nap 3.

A Perm lets you select more and covers every combination of the required size that can be formed from your larger selection. A Perm 2 from 4 means four numbers selected, covering all six possible pairs among them. Each combination is a separate bet at your chosen stake per combination.

That last point is the one to hold onto. A Perm is not one bet with better odds. It is many separate bets placed in a single transaction.

Counting the Combinations

Combination counts follow the standard formula, written nCr and read as n choose r. The common structures in Nigerian lottery are:

  • Perm 2 from 3: 3 combinations
  • Perm 2 from 4: 6 combinations
  • Perm 2 from 5: 10 combinations
  • Perm 2 from 6: 15 combinations
  • Perm 3 from 4: 4 combinations
  • Perm 3 from 5: 10 combinations
  • Perm 3 from 6: 20 combinations

Total stake is the stake per combination multiplied by the combination count. A Perm 2 from 6 at ₦50 per combination costs ₦50 × 15 = ₦750.

What It Actually Does to Your Chances

The improvement is real and can be quantified rather than asserted.

A single Nap 2 carries odds of 1 in 400.5, since there are 4,005 possible pairs from 90 numbers and 10 of them win.

Now take a Perm 2 from 6. You hold 15 of those 4,005 pairs, and the question is whether at least two of your six numbers appear among the five drawn. Working it through properly, the probability is about 3.4%, or roughly 1 in 29.

Against 1 in 400.5, that is a substantial improvement, and it is entirely genuine.

It was also bought at full price. You staked fifteen times as much, each pair still carries its own 1 in 400.5 probability, and the operator’s margin applies to every one of the fifteen exactly as it would to one. The expected loss per naira staked is identical to placing those fifteen pairs individually.

Perm buys broader coverage, not better value. Anyone describing it as a way to beat the odds has confused those two things.

Where Perm Genuinely Beats the Alternative

There is a comparison where Perm wins clearly, and it is worth setting out because it is the real argument for using it.

Suppose you have six numbers you want to play in pairs, with ₦600 to spend.

  • Six separate Nap 2 bets at ₦100 each: ₦600 total, covering 6 of the 15 possible pairs
  • Perm 2 from 6 at ₦40 per combination: ₦600 total, covering all 15 pairs

Identical spend, two and a half times the coverage. This is why experienced players prefer Perm to separate Nap bets when the combination count is manageable.

The gain comes from the structure organising your money efficiently across the pairs you wanted, not from any change to the odds or the margin. More coverage means a higher chance of winning something, at the same expected return on the money staked.

Cost Grows Faster Than People Expect

Combination counts escalate sharply as the selection grows, and this catches people out at the terminal.

Perm 2 from 6 is 15 combinations. Perm 2 from 8 is 28, nearly double for two more numbers. Perm 3 from 8 is 56. Perm 3 from 10 reaches 120 combinations, which at ₦50 each is ₦6,000.

Adding one number to a selection feels like a small decision and frequently is not. Ask the agent for the total before confirming rather than discovering it on the receipt.

When to Use It, and When Not To

Perm suits you when you have a set of numbers worth covering thoroughly, when your session budget absorbs the total comfortably, and when you prefer a higher chance of winning something modest over a single remote chance at something large.

It is not appropriate when the total would push you past your planned budget. Never stretch a budget to accommodate a Perm structure that does not fit inside a pre-set limit.

One distinction deserves stating plainly, because Perm is where it most often gets blurred. There is a real difference between “I want broader coverage on numbers I chose deliberately” and “I am increasing my structure because the last few draws went badly.” The second is chasing with extra arithmetic attached, and the size of the resulting stake makes it more expensive than ordinary chasing rather than less.

How to Place One

At an agent, say you want a Perm bet, specify the type and how many numbers you are selecting, give the numbers, and state your stake per combination. The terminal calculates the total and prints a ticket showing the combinations covered.

Check that ticket before leaving. Confirm the combination count and total match what you intended, since a Perm entered with one number more than you meant costs considerably more than a misentered single bet.

Online platforms build Perms automatically: select more numbers than the bet type requires and the system generates and costs the structure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Perm only available at agents?

No. Most Nigerian online platforms support Perm construction through the betting interface, generally with the total cost displayed before you confirm, which is a genuine advantage over working it out at a counter.

Does a Perm guarantee a win?

No. It improves the probability of winning something compared with a single Nap on the same numbers, and if none of your selected numbers appear, none of your combinations win. A Perm 2 from 6 still loses about 97% of the time.

What is the maximum Perm size?

This varies by operator and may be capped at terminal level. Ask the agent or check the platform. Large Perms become expensive very quickly, so the practical limit is usually your budget rather than the operator’s cap.

Is a Perm 2 ever smarter than a Nap 5?

Neither is smarter in expected value, since both carry a house edge. What differs is the shape of the outcome. A Perm spreads a budget across many modest-probability, modest-payout combinations; a Nap 5 concentrates it on one extremely remote chance at a very large return. That is a matter of preference, not advantage.

Can I Perm across different bet types at once?

Generally a Perm covers one bet type at a time, so a Perm 2 and a Perm 3 from the same numbers are separate transactions with separate costs. Ask before assuming they combine, and check the receipt reflects what you intended.
